23 Confirmed Entries for the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series

With just over 5 weeks until the start of the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series, interest in the reference endurance racing series in Asia is high. To date, 23 full season entries have been confirmed, with more still to be announced.

Entries have come from some of the leading teams in endurance racing, cementing the ACO’s Asian Series place in the region, and confirming its place in the global motorsport calendar.
 
The teams will be fighting for highly sought after entries to the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in a competitive and growing series, whilst benefiting from an exceptional broadcast package and racing at high-class circuits.
 
In addition to the entries announced earlier (see here), new entries have been received from Ecurie Ecosse/ Nielsen Racing, Inter Europol Competition, Panis Barthez Competition, Red River Sport by TF Sport, and Spirit of Race.

“We welcome the arrival of the new teams, especially those making their first trips to Asia. Motorsport in Asia is booming and the Asian Le Mans Series which provides a direct pathway to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for both Le Mans Prototypes and GT cars is now firmly on the radar of all the top endurance racing teams globally.

The season gets underway on the 25th of November at the Shanghai International Circuit, China. 

 

 Confirmed new entry details: 

NEW TEAM – Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Racing 
Two Ligier JS P3s
Car 1 – Christian Olsen and Nick Adcock
Car 2 – Colin Noble and Nick Wells
 
The Scottish team which this year has scored race wins in the Michelin Le Mans Cup and British LMP3 Cup and multiple podiums in the European Le Mans Series, has entered a pair of Ligier JS P3 prototypes for their first season in Asia. 
 
Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Racing Team Manager – Sven Thompson: 
“We’re incredibly excited to announce our first Asian Le Mans Series campaign as a team. This year’s LMP3 field looks like it’s going to be extremely competitive, and very attractive.
 
“We look forward to the opportunity that this gives us, not only a chance to fight for an Automatic Le Mans Invite, (obtained by winning the class title), but continue to expand and build up the reputation of Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Racing racing in ACO-sanctioned series outside of Europe.”

NEW TEAM – INTER EUROPOL COMPETITION 
Ligier JSP3
Drivers – Kuba Smiechowski and Martin Hippe
 
Established in 2010, this year the team is racing two LMP3s in both the European Le Mans Series and the VdeV championship. Inter Europol have announced Kuba Smiechowski and Martin Hippe will compete in their LMP3 entry, their first in the Asian Le Mans Series.
 
Inter Europol Technical Director – Michael Keese:
“I am proud to say that we are going to Asia also because of the very stable performance with both our LMP3s in the two European series we participate in. More important than that is that we will do this together with some of our long-time customers. For the team it also means that we will have a nice and very different winter programme instead of our usual testing in Europe. Nobody is complaining. We feel that the Asian program is a better preparation for the 2019 season.”

NEW TEAM – PANIS BARTHEZ COMPETITION
#35 Ligier JS P2
Drivers – Matthieu Lahaye, Jean-Baptiste Lahaye and François Hériau
 
Panis Barthez Competion have announced the driver line up of their LMP2 entry will be Matthieu Lahaye, his brother Jean-Baptiste and François Hériau.
 
Panis Barthez Competition Team Principal – Olivier Panis:
“The team is delighted to welcome this competitive line-up, which has proven during the past seasons a lot of promising things in ELMS, racing in the LMP3 Category. Matthieu already had an experience in LMP2, Jean-Baptiste never stop improving on track and François is one of the best Gentlemen driver. We are glad to bring the Panis-Barthez Compétition team in Asian Le Mans Series. The team, after three years of activity, is now well experimented and has always improved its level of performance in ELMS and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Being able to show our performance overseas is very positive for us, especially with such a line-up, whom will give all it has to succeed in this new challenge.”

NEW TEAM – RED RIVER SPORT BY TF SPORT 
#5 Aston Martin Vantage GT3
Drivers – Johnny Mowlem, Bonamy Grimes and Ivor Dunbar
 
Red River Sport by TF Sport have announced their driver line up will feature Johnny Mowlem, Bonamy Grimes and Ivor Dunbar in the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series.

RETURNING TEAM – SPIRIT OF RACE 
Ligier JSP2 – Drivers: Alexander West, Come Ledogar, Pipo Derani 
Ferrari 488 GT3 – Drivers TBA

 
Spirit of Race have announced they will be returning to the Asian Le Mans Series with a Ligier JSP2 and a Ferrari 488 GT3 for the 2018-19 season. The team raced Ferraris with us in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons and provided technical support to the BBT entry that finished runner up in LMP2 last season. 
 
They have announced Pipo Derani who finished 2ndin the 2017/18 Asian Le Mans Series will race the LMP2 with Alexander West and Côme Ledogar. The drivers of the Ferrari will be announced later. 
 
 
Other news:

United Autosports have announced their first LMP2 driver line up. Returning to the Asian Le Mans Series is 2016/17 Asian Le Mans Series LMP3 Champion, Phil Hanson. Joining him will be the highly experienced ex-formula one racer Paul di Resta. This strong pairing is expected to be challenging for the outright victory and the invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

United Autosports have also announced the driver line up one of their LMP3 entries.  They announced reigning Asian Le Mans Series LMP3 Champions Guy Cosmo and Patrick Byrne will be joined by Salih Yoluc for their Asian Le Mans Series LMP3 team for the 2018/2019 season.

Algarve Pro Racing have announced the drivers that will pilot one of their two LMP2 entries.  Mark Patterson, Anders Fjordbach, and Chris McMurry will join forces to race in the LMP2 Am class that is designed specifically for amateur drivers.

Jackie Chan DC Racing  have also confirmed an additional LMP3 entry, and they continue to work on confirming a second LMP2. This will bring their total to four prototypes for the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series.
